University of Zakho Academics Participate in International Kurdish Studies Symposium

Academics from the University of Zakho participated in the Seventh International Kurdish Studies Symposium, titled “Melayê Bateyî and His Legacy”, which was held in the city of Van in Northern Kurdistan.

The symposium took place on Wednesday, May 14, 2026, and brought together researchers and academics from various universities and countries. Representing the University of Zakho, Dr. Shawkat Sindi, Mr. Wahid Nimat, and Mr. Dler Kamal participated in the symposium sessions with three separate research papers.

During the event, the organizing committee of Kurdish Studies presented certificates of participation to the researchers and academics from the University of Zakho, expressing their appreciation and wishing them continued success in their academic endeavors. In addition, Dr. Shawkat Sindi, representing the University of Zakho, presented the university’s logo and publications of the Zakho Center for Kurdish Research to the Kurdish Studies Department at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University.

The International Symposium on “Melayê Bateyî and His Legacy” continued for two days with the participation of 40 researchers from different countries and universities. Therefore, this highlights ongoing scholarly engagement in Kurdish studies and cultural heritage.
