On Tuesday, 23 June 2026, under the supervision and attendance of Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, a special ceremony was held to evaluate and advance the scientific journals of universities in the Kurdistan Region.

Representing the University of Zakho, Prof. Dr. Jasim Mohammed Abdo, Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Basim Salim Ahmed officially participated in the event and its discussion panels.

Key Highlights of the Ceremony:

• International Indexing: The Minister of Higher Education announced that six scientific journals from Kurdistan Region universities have been indexed in international databases, marking a significant achievement and a source of pride for all institutions.

• Journal Evaluation: Dr. Jala Saeed Khattat, Director General of the Research and Development Department, stated that the required evaluation was conducted for 46 university journals, of which 23 are scientific journals and 23 are humanities journals.

• Continuous Development: The ceremony emphasized supporting universities in their ongoing efforts to gain greater international recognition and strengthen their position within the global academic community.
